For the 2018-19 school year, the Glenbard Parent Series has just added a second Community Read to showcase the powerful young adult novel Dear Martin and is pleased to welcome its author Nic Stone on Thursday, April 25th at Glenbard North at 7pm.

Dear Martin is a moving portrait of a college-bound, African-American young man struggling to make sense of our culture’s persistent racial and social injustice. Torn between his prep school world and that of his economically disadvantaged peers from the neighborhood, Justyce turns to the teachings of Martin Luther King for greater understanding, particularly after an altercation between his best friend and a white police officer. This prize winning New York Times best seller examines racial profiling in a realistic, powerful, and memorable way.

Author Nic Stone was born and raised in Atlanta and graduated from Spelman College. She worked extensively in teen mentoring and lived in Israel for a few years before returning to the U.S. to write full-time. Growing up with a wide range of cultures, religions, and backgrounds, Stone strives to bring these diverse voices and stories to her work.

Ms. Stone will speak to Glenbard North students about her writing process and the inspiration for her work throughout the school day on April 25th.
