Este taller de trabajo académico, diseñado y presentado por la Dra. Lourdes Ferrer, ofrece a los padres Hispanos el conocimiento que necesitan para navegar el sistema educativo americano. Los padres serán motivados a convertirse en auto defensores, aprender de los recursos disponibles para el éxito académico y habilidades para la obtención de información necesarias para las carreras actuales. La Dra. Ferrer ha recibido varios premios, inspirado familias hispanas en el logro académico, también es especialista en involucrar a las familias en el proceso. A través de este entrenamiento los padres hispanos serán inspirados y motivados en convertirse en modelos a seguir, y asumir el liderazgo en sus escuelas y comunidades.   Se ofrecerá desayuno y cuidado de niños gratuito.

This free workshop academy, facilitated by Dr. Lourdes Ferrer in Spanish, will provide Hispanic parents with the knowledge they need to navigate the American educational system and become empowered to become self advocates as they learn the resources for academic success and gain information on the skills necessary for today’s careers. Ferrer is an award-winning Hispanic academic achievement and parental involvement specialist who has developed numerous programs designed to increase the academic achievement of all students. Through this academy Hispanic parents will be inspired and motivated to become role models among peers and assume leadership roles in their school and community. Parents will also learn how to increase students’ college and career readiness, motivate them to pursue STEM-related degrees and graduate college with the least amount of debt.

Dr. Lourdes is the author of the books Hispanic Parental Involvement: Ten Competencies Schools Must Teach Hispanic Parents. She also wrote Siéntese en la Silla del Conductor: Las Diez Competencias Para Conducir a Sus Hijos al Triunfo Académico (Sit In the Driver’s Seat: The Ten Competencies to Drive Your Children to Academic Success) and co-authored Voices: African American and Hispanic Students’ Perceptions Regarding the Academic Achievement Gap.

Dr Ferrer will also present a free ACT math review session to Glenbard students on Saturday, April 9 from 10am-3:00pm in the Glenbard East library. Glenbard East is at 1014 S.
