In The Spirit Of Excellence: Achieving the Dream and Academic Recognition Event

| Free

Families United in Support of Equity and Excellence (FUSE) for African-American students and the Glenbard Parent Series will host a Back to School special event and luncheon featuring Dr. Sonya Whitaker.

Success does not happen on its own. It requires an active approach that encompasses the results our students deliver and the impressions they create upon others. Dr. Sonya Whitaker is here to empower her audience with an introduction to the effective business model referred to as PIE (Performance, Image and Exposure) — a framework by which to govern one’s actions in order to achieve success in both school and in life.

During the presentation Dr. Whitaker will introduce several avenues by which students can engage in the process of achieving their dreams. This inspiring presentation will assist all in accomplishing the academic, social/emotional and financial goals they have established for themselves and their families. By utilizing the tools that will be presented, it is possible for every child and adult to develop their fullest capabilities, increasing the likelihood that they will be able to enjoy and reap the full benefits of active participation in the larger society.

Dr. Sonya L. Whitaker is a highly regarded published author, national speaker and school district leader who has a combined total of seven years of experience as a school district Superintendent. Most recently, her commitment to excellence in education led to her pursing and successfully obtaining the National Superintendent’s Certification, sponsored by the School Superintendent’s Association (AASA). Dr. Whitaker is also the host of a new podcast show entitled What’s Really Going On: A Spotlight on Solutions for Improving Student Achievement in America’s Schools. Her show is available via Apple iTunes, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Spotify and her website which is https://sonyawhitaker.com

Throughout her progressive career she has also served as a central office administrator for the largest elementary school district in the state of Illinois. At the district level, she holds the title of Deputy Superintendent of Schools and has held the titles of Director for Academic Improvement and Director of Literacy. In those positions she was responsible for coordinating curriculum, instruction, assessment and implementing research-based professional development opportunities for literacy coaches, reading specialists, principals and classroom teachers. Her responsibilities also included monitoring, analyzing and interpreting state and district data for continuous improvement of student achievement in the area of literacy. Dr. Whitaker has also had extensive experiences as a Principal, Assistant Principal, and Classroom Teacher.

The mission of FUSE is to provide Glenbard families with the tools, resources and education to equip students for success. Attend all three FUSE events and be eligible to earn the 2019-20 FUSE $1000 scholarship.

Following Dr. Whitaker’s remarks the FUSE organization invites all to join us for lunch as we recognize the academic accomplishment of many of our Glenbard students at this special family event.

Continuing professional development units are available.
