“Mathematics is easy and fun to understand”, says Dr Eugenia Cheng. Mathematician, baker, professional pianist, and author Cheng is on a mission to rid the world of math phobia and make math interesting and accessible to all. With entertaining demonstrations on the piano and violin, Cheng will explain the mathematics behind musical harmonics and much more.
Join us for this totally unique experience, and discover how a basic understanding of music (and cooking) can lead to a greater understanding behind the complexity of mathematics.
Dr Eugenia Cheng is Scientist In Residence at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her math books, How to Bake Pi and Beyond Infinity have received international acclaim. She has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and her YouTube videos have been viewed over a million times to date. Eugenia is the math columnist for the Wall Street Journal, and a recognized concert pianist.
This program, held in the Glenbard South Library at 7pm, will be running at the same time as Daniel Pink’s WHEN: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing.
