Families of African American Students United for Excellence and Equity (FUSE) and the Glenbard Parent Series will host a special event and luncheon on Saturday, March 16 at 11:30 a.m. in the library at Glenbard West, 670 Crescent Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

VaLarie Humphrey is a college retention specialist who prepares, inspires and motivates students to overcome feelings of negative self worth and meet the demands of college and career. Val has a way of uplifting and empowering youth as she shares the struggles of her own young life.
Join us and learn about her journey from college “flunk out” to award winning school principal. Humphrey will share her transformation of overcoming a mindset of entitlement, to a mindset of employment and to one of a successful entrepreneur. Humphrey travels the country changing lives in a multitude of ways, sharing tools to build confidence and resilience even in those who others have given up on.

VaLarie Humphrey has been in the education arena for over twenty-eight years. She has been labeled as the at-risk educator because of her outside-the-box thinking. She received the New Teacher of the Year Award from Chicago Public Schools her first year in the classroom. After thirteen years of teaching she became the principal of the Quad County Urban League’s alternative school. She is currently an assistant principal in Indian Prairie School District 204. In 2012 she created True Eagle Beauty Foundation, Inc. where she and her team work diligently to impact the lives of over 300+ young females throughout Illinois, Ohio and Texas.

Following Ms Humphrey remarks the FUSE organization invites all to join us for lunch as we recognize the leadership accomplishment of many of our Glenbard students at this special family event. Family members are invited to this free luncheon event.  The mission of FUSE is to provide Glenbard families with the tools, resources and education to equip students for success.
