Parent and Athlete Meeting – Defining Character On and Off the Field: Who Are you When No One is Watching?

Dr. Nicole Detling received her BA in psychology and sports science from Ohio Wesleyan University, her MS in sport psychology from Ithaca College, and her PhD in sport psychology at the University of Utah. She also completed an internship in sport psychology in the Sports Medicine Center at the Mayo Clinic. Nicole has been consulting with athletes and performers since 1998. Athletes, teams, and coaches of all ages, ability levels, and sports have sought Nicole’s services.. Nicole has given numerous international, national, and regional presentations at professional conferences She is currently an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in the Exercise and Sport Sciences Department at the University of Utah. She is a member and a Certified Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (CC-AASP).

Nicole served at the Coordinator of Sport Psychology Services as well as a provider of sport psychology services (mental skills coach) with US Speed Skating from 2008-2013 and is currently one of the sport psychology consultants / mental skills coaches with the US Ski Association. In addition to working with several Olympians, she has worked with professional athletes in the PGA, MLB, MLS, and NHL.

Her Olympic experience includes being a fully-credentialed member of Team USA with the US Short Track team in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games where all 10 skaters on the team came home with at least one Olympic medal. She was also honored to be part of Team USA in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games as a fully-credentialed sport psychology consultant with the US Freestyle Aerials Ski Team.Nicole has loved sports her entire life and was a three sport athlete (basketball, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field) at the collegiate level.. The wide range of sports that Nicole has worked with include: baseball, basketball,, cross-country, equestrian, figure skating, football, freestyle aerials, golf, ice hockey, long track speed skating, luge, mountain biking, nordic ski jumping, sculling, snowboarding, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Hundreds of the world’s best athletes have benefited from Nicole’s performance enhancement strategies.
