La serie de seminarios para padres de las Escuelas Glenbard (GPS), Fomentando Familias Saludables, presentara “En la Silla del Conductor: Una Academia de Liderazgo para Padres Hispanos”, facilitada por la Dra. Lourdes Ferrer,
El involucramiento de los padres en la educación de sus hijos es el primer indicador del triunfo académico de los estudiantes. Fortaleciendo a los padres para juegan un papel importante en la vida de los hijos es la llave al triunfo académico. La Dra. Ferrer, reconocida nacionalmente como experta en asuntos académicos e involucramiento de los padres, los enseñará a los padres las competencias que deben demonstrar para – sentarse en la silla del conductor en cuanto a la educación de los hijos se refiere. Los padres aprenden estrategias para asegurarse que sus hijos estén bien preparados para sacar, libre de deudas, carreras postsecundarias que estén en demanda y pague bien. Los padres además aprenden como cómo apoyar el potencial de los hijos, interpretar las pruebas estandarizadas y estrategias para crear en el hogar un ambiente que conduzca al triunfo académico.
La Dra. Ferrer es autora de varios libros incluyendo, Hispanic Parental Involvement: Ten Competencies Schools Must Teach Hispanic Parents. Ella es además la autora del libro, Siéntese en la Silla del Conductor: Las Diez Competencias Para Conducir a Sus Hijos al Triunfo Académico y co-autora de Voices: African American and Hispanic Students’ Perceptions Regarding the Academic Achievement Gap.
Estos seminarios se llevarán a cabo den la biblioteca de Glenbard East, localizada en la 1014 South Main St. en la ciudad de Lombard.

GPS/Spanish: Parents in the Driver’s Seat
Parental involvement is the leading indicator of student academic achievement. Empowering parents so they can play a significant role in their children’s education is key in efforts to increase the academic achievement of Hispanic students. Ferrer an award-winning Hispanic academic achievement, and parental involvement specialist will explain the competencies that parents demonstrate when they “sit in the driver’s seat” of their children’s education. Parents will learn how to increase students’ college and career readiness, and graduate college with the least amount of debt. Join us and gain information on the skills necessary for today’s careers. . Participants will better understand how to earn degrees that are in demand and the strategies to create a home environment that is conducive to their children’s academic success. Students are encourgared to attend, and learn about a free three hour SAT math prep course taught by Dr Ferrer on February 3. Babysitting will be provided.
Ferrer is the author of the books Hispanic Parental Involvement: Ten Competencies Schools Must Teach Hispanic Parents. She also wrote Siéntese en la Silla del Conductor: Las Diez Competencias Para Conducir a Sus Hijos al Triunfo Académico (Sit In the Driver’s Seat: The Ten Competencies to Drive Your Children to Academic Success) and co-authored Voices: African American and Hispanic Students’ Perceptions Regarding the Academic Achievement Gap.
