Achieving success takes hard work and turning life’s challenges into opportunities for growth and self-transformation is key. Dr Michael Allen’s inspirational presentation will demonstrate to students that all have tremendous talent – talent that is directly connected to the adversity that they have experienced over the course of their lives. His goal is to enlighten students in understanding that the road to releasing talent is through education, allowing them to access freedom, success, and the highest quality of life. He provides holistic and practical tools that will help youth navigate their feelings, inspire them to seek out and value mentorship, and empower them to trust their own inner strength.

Participants will also learn about Brotherly Love his just-published memoir about the transformative power of love, the brother he mentored, and what it takes to persevere through the real obstacles facing young Black boys today.

Despite the tremendous hardships of his own childhood Dr. Allen has believed, from a very young age, that he could accomplish anything. He earned a doctorate in administration and supervision from Loyola University in Chicago and began his first year as a school principal at age 24. Dr. Allen has also facilitated round table discussions on the topics of trauma, equity, and on emotional intelligence and mindfulness in schools at leading educational institutions.

This presentation is hosted by FUSE: Families United in Support of Excellence and for All, Especially Students that Identify as African American or Black, and the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS).
