Chris Herren

Unguarded/Basketball Junkie: My Message to Parents

Wed, Feb 21, 2018 @ 6:00 pm CST - 7:30 pm CST

| Free

Herren realized his dream of playing for the Boston Celtics only to lose it all to addiction.  In this personal and brutally honest presentation, gifted athlete Chris Herren will take the audience on his painful journey to sobriety . He will share his struggles as he addresses the themes of gateway drugs, prescription drug abuse, drinking and driving as well as self-harm. Herren battled to overcome his addiction for much of his basketball career. Drug-free and alcohol-free since, 2008 Chris has dedicated his life to his family, sobriety and educating people of all ages on the dangers of substance abuse. It is his personal mission to be an agent of change in the lives of the young people he touches during his presentations.

BballJunkie

Herren will share his life-affirming experiences with our community – as seen in his memoir, Basketball Junkie and the Emmy nominated ESPN 30 for 30 documentary, Unguarded. Chris is the founder of The Herren Project/ Project Purple, a nonprofit committed to encouraging youth and adults to live drug free and make their hoop dreams a reality.

At the conclusion of Herren’s remarks please join your neighbors for a COMMUNITY CONVERSATION in the school auditorium. This event is open to the public.

CPDUs are available.

This event is part of Glenbard’s Live Life Well Week.  Chris Herren will be speaking at each of our four high schools to students.
