As coaches, teachers, and parents, our responses to stress and adversity are instructive to the children and young adults under our guidance and in our care. Through the development of healthy and sustainable stress-managements skills, like mindful breathing, we can turn stress into strength and build resilience in ourselves, our families, and our communities.
For almost two decades, Dr. Matt Dewar has served as a coach, educator, and well-being coordinator at Lake Forest High School (IL), introducing students, athletes, and colleagues to research-based mindfulness and self-care practices through workshops, academic courses, school-wide programs, and professional development.
Outside of Lake Forest High School, Matt has worked with collegiate and professional athletes and consulted with school districts nationally on implementing mindfulness and well-being programming. Matt is also the former president of The Coalition of Schools Educating Mindfully (COSEM) and is the author of The Mindful Breathing Workbook for Teens: Simple Practices to Help You Manage Stress and Feel Better Now (2021) and Education and Well-Being: An Ontological Inquiry (2016). His work has been featured on TEDx, NPR, and the National Wellness Institute.
This event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 14.
