*** POSTPONED *** Angst: It’s OK to Say – It’s Treatable

Tue, May 5, 2020

| Free

We regret that this film documentary screening has been postponed.  ALL Glenbard Parent Series programs are postponed until further notice. We apologize for this inconvenience.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The film documentary Angst will be screened twice on Tuesday, May 5:

  • Noon at CCSD#93 Adminstration Center, 230 Covington Dr., Bloomingdale, with a discussion to follow with Dr. Karen Cassiday
  • 7 p.m. at Glenbard East High School, 1014 S. Main St, Lombard, with a discussion to follow with Dr. Danielle Black

The teen years are a time of great change, challenge, and stress. It’s not surprising that anxiety is the chief complaint of today’s young people. Learning how to understand anxiety, talk about it, and manage it is key.

Through candid interviews, the producers of the film tell the stories of many kids and teens who discuss their anxieties, its impacts on their lives and relationships, and how they’ve found solutions and hope. The documentary also provides discussions with mental health experts (such as former GPS presenter Dr Laura Kastner) about the causes of anxiety, its sociological effects, and resources available to address the challenges of teen angst.

Following the 7 p.m. screening a discussion will be led by Dr Danielle Black, Director of Graduate and Post Graduate programs at the Family Institute at Northwestern University. Dr Black’s treatment approach blends family therapy and empirically supported treatments such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

A noon film-screening will also be available at the Community Consolidated School District 93 Administration Building, 230 Covington Drive in Bloomingdale with a discussion to follow led by clinical psychologist Dr. Karen Cassiday, Managing Director at the Anxiety Treatment Center of Greater Chicago. Dr Cassiday empowers patients to overcome their struggles with anxiety, compulsions, phobias, and depression. Her goal is to make each patient an expert at managing his/her personal anxiety, allowing each individual to face any future event with confidence and courage.

This free event is open to the public. Students eleven and over are encouraged to attend.

Continuing professional development units are available.
