Teenage depression is more common than people may realize. It’s more than feeling sad, it isn’t just a bad mood and may present as irritability. It can alter every aspect of an adolescent’s life. In severe cases depression can be life threatening with suicide as a possible outcome. In this important presentation we will focus on the symptoms, causes and treatments. Attendees will learn how teen depression is different from the normal ups and downs of adolescence as we separate warning signs of real concern from the erratic behavior so typical of the teen years. Learn how adults can best intervene as well as the most effective treatment options for teens when depression is identified.
Dr. Jason J. Washburn is a licensed clinical psychologist and board-certified specialist in clinical child and adolescent psychology. He is the Director of Evidence- Based Practice at the Amita Behavioral Medicine Institute, an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University, and the Director of Education and Clinical Training for Clinical Psychology at Northwestern University.
