Matthew Pietrafetta, Ph.D. of Academic Approach comes to GPS to educate parents and caregivers about the construct of SAT test. The focus of the presentation will be on the April SAT offered to all juniors at the Glenbard High Schools, concentrating on the content of the exam, strategy, and when and how to prepare. Participants will have standardized testing myth busted and the opportunity to have their questions answered and engage in challenging (and fun!) quizzes.

Matthew Pietrafetta founded Academic Approach in 2001 and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer. Since 2001, Matthew has supervised the organization’s instructional services, curriculum, and technology development.

Matthew earned his M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees in English Language and Literature at Columbia University in New York City. After teaching in Columbia’s Core Curriculum and preparing New York City high school students for college entrance exams, Matthew worked to define a model of test preparation based less on strategy and more on skills-development to prepare students for academic success both on and beyond the test.

Following Pietrarfetta’s remarks New York Times bestselling author Jeffrey Selingo author of “Who Gets In and Why: A Year Inside College Admissions” will also join us for a brief and revealing conversation on the SAT and college admission. These disclosures from inside the admissions office identifies surprising strategies that will aid in the college search.

New York Times bestselling author Jeffrey Selingo has written a revealing look from inside the admissions office—one that identifies surprising strategies that will aid in the college search.  Jeff will give us a preview of his book Who Gets In & Why: A Year Inside  College Admissions.  Selingo, who was embedded in three different admissions offices—a selective private university, a leading liberal arts college, and a flagship public campus—closely observed gatekeepers as they made their often agonizing and sometimes life-changing decisions. He also followed select students and their parents, and he traveled around the country meeting with high school counselors, marketers, behind-the-scenes consultants, and college rankers.  Jeff Selingo will come back to Glenbard Parent Series later this year to discuss his book and the college admissions process in greater detail.

Jeff Selingo is the author of two New York Times bestsellers, College (Un)Bound and There Is Life After College. For more than twenty years, he has provided insight and practical advice to students, parents, educators, and academic leaders about the inner workings of colleges and universities and what’s next for higher education. Jeff’s third book, , was published by Simon & Schuster in September 2020. Jeff received a bachelor’s degree from Ithaca and a master’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Washington, D.C.
