“Don’t think of introversion as something that needs to be cured,” says Susan Cain best-selling author of Quiet and Quiet Power, she maintains that “asking introverts to act like extroverts is a serious waste of talent and energy.”

Leadership is often associated with bold confidence and charisma, but many great leaders are soft-spoken, shy, deep thinkers. She posits that revealing the power of quietude will not only free introverts to be themselves, but will contribute to positive advancements in leadership, parenting, and the work force.

Using her original research and the latest in neuroscience and psychology, Cain describes how, for over a century, the value of extroverts has been glorified to the detriment of innovation, productivity, and the hidden strengths of introverts – who make up about one third of the population.

In this enlightening, relatable, and practical talk, GPS Speaker Susan Cain will show us that introverts think and work in ways that are crucial to our survival today. Her presentation is an essential guide to quickly understanding the introverted personality. Join us for this validating and inspiring event and learn why the next generation of quiet kids must be raised to know their own strength. This conversation will change how we see introverts and more importantly how they see themselves.

Susan Cain is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Quiet Power: The Secret Strengths of Introverts, and Quiet: The Power of Introverts in A World That Can’t Stop Talking that started the Quiet Movement and has since been translated into 40 languages. Her most recent book Bittersweet: How Sorrow and Longing Make Us Whole was just released in April of 2022. Her writing has also appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, and many other publications. Her record-smashing TED talk has also been viewed over 40 million times on TED.com and YouTube combined.

Susan will be in conversation with Dr. Marc Brackett. Dr. Brackett is a professor in Yale University’s Child Study Center and founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence.
