Talk with Your Teen About E-cigarettes:  A Tip Sheet for Parents from the Surgeon General

Vaping and e-cigarette use is a rapidly growing problem among high school and even middle school students. There is a general lack of awareness among parents and teens about the potential impact of vaping.  This presentation will offer information on several of the risks and harms associated with these devices. This will allow for parents to make informed decisions about appropriate boundaries and expectations. The most common vaping devices that teens are using will also be discussed so that parents know what to look for if they suspect potential use.

Matthew Quinn provides community relations for Rosecrance in the western suburbs of Chicago in Cook, DuPage, Kane, and Kendall counties. He is a member of the Coalition for Drug Free Lyons Township, Community Alliance for Prevention in Naperville, the Prevention Leadership Team in DuPage County, the Juvenile Justice Council in Kane County, and the Connect For Life program through the Naperville Police Department. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in psychology at the University of Notre Dame and Master’s Degree in clinical psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology.  Matthew is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) in Illinois.
