The rise in the use of vaping devices and other substances among youth is a growing concern. Are you familiar with carts? Dabs? Box mods? If you have young people in your life, you should be. This “Wake-Up Call” presentation, a program of Your Choice Prevention Education, is here to provide adults practical information on current drug trends, and a walk-through of a teens’ bedroom with more than 50 red flags that could indicate substance use. Participants will learn proactive parenting strategies to keep your child substance free now.

The presenters, all with lived experience, combine their personal stories, experience working with students and families, and sharing things they wish they would’ve known into an engaging, real, and unique presentation. This presentation is a MUST SEE for parents, grandparents, teachers, community members, and other adults who are influential in the lives of youth. This virtual presentation is suggested for those over age 21 only.

Your Choice Prevention Education returns to Glenbard to provide awareness, prevention education, resources and support to youth, parents, schools, and communities regarding alcohol and drug use. The goal is to shape healthy, responsible, and successful future generations who are equipped with the necessary resiliency and decision-making skills to make good choices in all aspects of their lives.

The illicit prescription pill market has been flooded with deadly fake pills. These pills are made to look like actual prescription medications: Xanax, Adderall, Percocet, etc. Sometimes these fake pills are laced with fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 50 times more potent than heroin. These fake pills can easily be purchased online including on most social media platforms (e.g., Snapchat, Instagram) – and pose extreme danger to our youth.

Dean is the parent of three Glenbard South graduates, whose youngest son, Peter, graduated in 2017. In April 2021, Peter was found dead in his college apartment after taking just a single pill that he believed to be a “safe” prescription drug. Jeske’s presentation will tell Peter’s story and give potentially life-saving information about this crisis.
