Empathy and kindness, now in short supply, are a source of strength not weakness, states Stanford psychology professor Dr. Jamil Zaki in his groundbreaking book The War for Kindness. He asserts that empathy is not a fixed trait (something we are born with) but a life skill that can be built and strengthened through effort.

Academic studies show that empathic individuals excel professionally and experience greater subjective well-being. Research also reveals that the most successful workplace teams are those in which employees report high levels of psychological safety and empathy.

Through real life stories and cutting-edge research, this director of Stanford’s Social Neuroscience Lab, makes a powerful case for creating links of empathy to give us collective power to strengthen our social environment and thus to make a caring and compassionate world.

Join us for this hopeful and inspiring presentation on sharing, thinking about, and caring for others. We can expand our circle of care and humanity even in these divisive times.

Dr.  Jamil Zaki is also the author of Leading with Empathy in Turbulent Times, which reveals cutting strategies for how to empathize more effectively in the workplace, and his writing has appeared in the New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker and The Atlantic.
