For all Students and Especially Students who Identify as African American or Black
Families United in Support of Excellence (FUSE) and the Glenbard Parent Series welcome life coach Dr. Dwayne Williams and social work interventionist Ava Blalark at an in-person event at Glenbard South that explores both positive parenting and the social emotional health of young people.
Dr. Dwayne Williams and Ava Blalark will discuss how caregivers can care for themselves, give to others, and create a positive, supportive, environment that allows children to grow into healthy adults. They will then examine the biology around social and emotional development and trauma, and what that looks like for teens and will wrap up with the introduction of an important tool called V.A.L.U.E.D. which provides six important lessons designed to help young people manage anxiety and depression and develop the resilience needed to pursue their dreams.
Dr. Williams earned a Bachelor’s (BA) degree in Psychology from Fairmont State University. He earned a Master’s (MA) degree in Psychology and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S) degree from Marshall University Graduate College. Dr. Williams is currently a school psychologist, an educational consultant, an author, and a success coach. He is the author of several books, including: Human Behavior from a Spiritual Perspective: Spiritual Development Begins in Your Mind, Like Music to My Ears, Teacher and Student Edition: A Hip-Hop Approach to Social Emotional Learning and An RTI Guide to Improving the Performance of African American Students
This event will be in person at the Glenbard South Little Theater.
