Families United in Support of Equity and Excellence for African American Students (FUSE) and the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) will host a special family event and luncheon,“Translate Your Vision Into Reality” together with a Leadership Recognition Ceremony on Saturday, March 21 at 11:30 a.m. in the library at Glenbard South, 23W200 Butterfield Road in Glen Ellyn.

Achieving success takes hard work, and turning life’s challenges into opportunities for growth and self-transformation is key. Here to assist and inspire parents and students on the road to success is highly regarded educational leader Dr Michael Allen.

Dr Allen’s presentation will demonstrate to students that all have tremendous talent – talent that is directly connected to the adversity that they have experienced over the course of their lives. His goal is to enlighten students in understanding that the road to releasing talent is through education, allowing them to access freedom, success, and the highest quality of life.

Despite the tremendous hardships of his own childhood Dr Michael Allen has believed, from a very young age, that he could accomplish anything. He earned a doctorate in administration and supervision from Loyola University in Chicago, and began his first year as a school principal at age 24. Currently Dr. Allen is the principal of Oakton Elementary School in Evanston/Skokie. And yet despite his story of personal achievement Dr Allen also has a long-held dream to influence the policies that have proven to hold people of color down. To this end Dr. Allen has facilitated round table discussions on the topics of trauma, on informed practices, on equity, and on emotional intelligence and mindfulness in schools such as Northwestern and Harvard University . Dr Allen is the recipient of many accolades including the National Association of University Women’s Educator of the Year Award.

The mission of FUSE is to provide Glenbard families with the tools, resources and education to equip students for success.

Following Dr Allen’s remarks the FUSE organization invites all to join us for lunch as we recognize the leadership accomplishment of many of our Glenbard students at this special family event.

Continuing professional development units are available.
